Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
We love miniatures! It’s like old Hollywood creativity and so whimsical and fun. Great way to open a film! Julie saw the Producer credit for Brad Pitt and let out an ‘ohh’ and we were both hoping for a shirtless cameo from Hunk Pitt.
This is a highly watchable fun time film for spooky season. Michael Keaton must love playing Beetlejuice, it’s one of our favorite characters ever. - They Live (1988)

28 Years Later (2025)
We thought we’d kick the szn off strong with what promised to be a truly spooky movie for us. We are big fans of 28 Days Later and love Danny Boyle’s tendency to take risks and innovate. Julie summarized the films premise pretty well: “They’re gonna miss the tide and they’re gonna have to stay there all night and this whole movie is gonna take 28 years.“
If you are prone to easy spooks, the safest viewing experience is at volume four with subtitles on so that the screeching is barely audible. The audio mixing is so good and so stressful. Halfway through the film, I paused to make another drink and noticed that the outdoor lights were still on. I opened up the garage door to turn the lights off and nearly shit my pants thinking about the alpha that was bound to eat my guts out.
28 yrs later creates a ton of anxiety throughout the film, and has spooky and grotesque moments. It didn’t feel as scary as the first film to us and maybe that’s a testament to how jaded we’ve become. This is a manageable, moderately spooky movie that you should absolutely have on the list.
Quick takeaways from Julie:
I don’t wanna be in a tunnel with zombies.
Ralph Fiennes is an immediate revelation.
Just two young wolves. I liked that - that was good.
